Housing Authority windows vs ordinary aluminium windows: what is the difference?

Updated October 2026

"Housing Authority windows" are aluminium windows designed and made to the Hong Kong Housing Authority specification, mainly for public housing estates. LE-RELAX is an approved aluminium window supplier to the Housing Authority and makes 38 and 50 Housing Authority windows. Many private flat owners replacing windows ask how these differ from ordinary aluminium windows.

1. Specification and testing

Housing Authority windows must meet the Housing Authority specification and are tested to British Standards BS 6375-1 and BS 6375-2. BS 6375-1 covers weathertightness: air permeability, watertightness and wind resistance. BS 6375-2 covers operation and strength. Ordinary aluminium windows are not necessarily tested to these standards.

2. Friction stays

The friction stay is the most important piece of hardware on a casement window: it carries the weight of the sash. LE-RELAX Housing Authority windows use stainless steel friction stays made in our own factory, certified under PCCS-FH (the Hong Kong window hinge product certification) and tested to BS 6375-2.

3. Can a private flat use Housing Authority windows?

Yes. Housing Authority windows are practical and durable, and spare parts are easy to find, so many private owners choose them. For larger windows, higher floors or better sound and heat insulation, you can also consider our 40 to 110 series casement windows with insulated or LOW-E glass.

4. How to choose

WhatsApp the photos and rough measurements to your nearest store, and we will suggest a suitable series and give you a quote.
